Before you start
You need OBS Studio and your private overlay URL. On Pop A Lime, you'll find it in your Studio. Treat it like a password: anyone with the link can load your alerts, so never show it on stream.
Add the alert overlay
These steps follow the official OBS guide for alert overlays.
- Open OBS and select the scene you stream from in the Scenes list.
- Right-click inside the Sources list, choose Add, then Browser.
- Name the source, for example Pop A Lime alerts, and click OK.
- Paste your overlay URL into the URL field.
- Set the width and height to match your canvas, usually 1920 by 1080.
- Click OK. The overlay sits on top of your scene, transparent until an alert plays.
Test it before going live
Send a test alert from your Studio and watch the OBS preview. Check three things: the alert appears where you want it, the sound comes through, and read-aloud voice messages are loud enough over your game audio.
Add goal and leaderboard overlays
Goals and top supporters each have their own overlay URL. Add each as a separate Browser Source so you can place and resize them on their own. Leaderboards can show top or recent supporters by day, week, month or all time.
Common problems and fixes
Most alert issues come down to audio routing or a stale page.
- No sound: in the Browser Source properties, tick Control audio via OBS, then check the source isn't muted in the Audio Mixer.
- Alert doesn't appear: right-click the source, open Properties and click Refresh cache of current page.
- Alert is cut off: make the source the same size as your canvas, then move it rather than shrinking it.
- Works in preview but not on stream: make sure the source is in the scene you're actually broadcasting.
